"On the Shinkansen back from Kyoto, I absentmindedly picked up a book from a pile in my lap, and it was my first encounter with 'Look Back.' That night, I read it straight through. Even though manga and film are different genres, as a fellow creator, I deeply felt the 'determination' conveyed. It struck me painfully that Fujimoto Tatsuki likely couldn't have moved on to his next step without drawing this work. For me, 'Nobody Knows' was that kind of work."
After that encounter, producer Koide proposed making 'Look Back' into a live-action film, and I had the chance to meet Fujimoto-san in person. Above all, I wanted to express my gratitude for him bringing such a work into the world, and for being able to encounter it in the same era. However, on my way back, I had solidified my resolve: 'I can't NOT do this.'
"Kore-eda's heartfelt praise for 'Look Back' has folks hyped, but some are jokingly wishing Fujimoto Tatsuki had agonized a *little* more over Chainsaw Man Part 2."
