The scammer posing as Gangseo Police Station was actually an officer from Gangseo Police!

This story, which recently came to light, is about a woman who was about to be scammed out of 6 million won but miraculously avoided it when she coincidentally met a police officer at a used goods transaction. According to a video uploaded to the National Police Agency's YouTube channel on the 1st, Officer K, who is on leave from Seoul's Gangseo Police Station, was waiting for a buyer to sell used goods in a residential area in Seoul last month. The buyer, Mr. L, who arrived late, said, "I'm sorry I'm late. I was at the bank." He continued, "Someone from Gangseo Police Station called and said my ID was stolen, so I need to withdraw money." Sensing something was off, Officer K asked, "The police told you to withdraw money?" To which Mr. L replied, "Yes. They told me to withdraw all the cash and have it ready. Oh, my goodness. They told me not to tell anyone." At this, Officer K said, "This sounds like a phishing scam. Actually, I'm also a police officer," and revealed he was from Gangseo Police Station. Afterward, Officer K directly contacted Gangseo Police Station to confirm if there was a work phone associated with the number the scammer used, and then guided Mr. L to a nearby police box to help him report the incident. Mr. L said, "(The scammer) asked me how many minutes it would take me to get home." He added, "If I had met a regular person (instead of a police officer) at the used goods transaction, I would have just finished the deal and gone home, and I don't know what would have happened then. They might have been waiting for me at my house," he said, relieved. When finally asked about the used item he bought from Officer K, Mr. L replied, "I liked it."
