There's a rumor going around that Japan is halting exports of photoresist, a raw material for semiconductors, to China...

For reference, photoresist is an essential raw material for semiconductor manufacturing. H-halting exports of this would be no different than China banning rare earth exports.

In Korea, Abe also pulled the 'export ban' move, but back then, it was a lose-lose situation for both Japan and Korea. So, Japanese companies even set up factories or branches in Korea to find ways to get it through loopholes.
But now... Japan has no reason to do that to China.
Even if Japan stops exporting semiconductor components to China now, the situation is completely different from when they did it to Korea. Why?

Because the demand for memory chips is skyrocketing right now, Samsung and SK are screaming their heads off.

Companies everywhere are begging Samsung and SK for memory chips, getting memory chips is a global emergency right now. Demand is so explosively high compared to supply that both Samsung and SK are screaming and freaking out, so of course, imports of raw materials are also skyrocketing.

On top of that, they're so short on supply that Japan is even considering building factories in Korea to secure supply.
For reference, everything that uses memory right now is going up in price. DRAM needs no explanation.

SD cards are also going up like crazy, and anywhere else memory is used...

Hard drives, SSDs, graphics cards, etc. And if you expand beyond PC components to all electronics...

There's nothing that doesn't use memory.
"The internet is losing its mind over the Japan-China trade war drama, with everyone debating who has the upper hand and how Korea might profit. Meanwhile, AI is apparently driving up demand for everything memory-related, making everyone scramble. Some are calling it 'political justice porn' and 'mud wrestling,' while others are just hoping to make bank. 😂"
