Since Hirokazu started with documentaries, he often took events covered by the media, combined them with his own experiences, and recreated them into new works, and most of those works were great.
- 'Nobody Knows': The Sugamo child neglect case in Tokyo, Japan, 1988.
- 'Like Father, Like Son': A similar case in Okinawa in the 1970s.
- 'Shoplifters': A movie inspired by a case where a family lived off the elderly person's pension, and continued to receive the pension by hiding their death, committing fraud.
Considering 'Monster' is also based on the Kyoto Animation arson attack, it makes sense why Hirokazu was drawn to it.
"Dude, so the 'Like Father, Like Son' inspiration wasn't *exactly* what the OP said, it's from a book about a real case! Wild."
