Intro...
NMIXX's first solo concert has successfully wrapped up. Whenever I usually write reviews, I've only ever jotted down my immediate feelings on the day or the day after the show. But it feels like I haven't really written a review about a concert itself since their first fan-con, so I thought I'd rewatch some concert footage and give my thoughts on some of the performances. They performed about 30 stages during the final encore of the last show, so it's tough to comment on every single one. I'll pick out a few stages I want to highlight and present them in an awards ceremony format.
As always, this concert really utilized the extendable stage a lot. On the first day, my seat was in row 2 of section F5, which was great. But on the last day, I was in section F4, so I had to secretly hold back tears every time the members ran out to the extendable stage. ㅠ Still, it's been a while since I just enjoyed the music and the stage itself without worrying about seeing them with my own eyes or filming. That was also charming, and it made me think, 'Wow, NMIXX really makes great music.' I even reflected on whether I've been too busy trying to capture their real-life visuals and the stage.
Of course, if I could choose my seats again, I would absolutely not go to F4. Nope. Absolutely not.
Anyway, enough rambling. Let's officially begin the awards ceremony!
Best Couple
The first stage I want to introduce is the one that won the Best Couple award. You might be wondering why I'm suddenly talking about 'Best Couple' when picking stages, right? For the Best Couple stage, I chose 'Funky Glitter Christmas,' where the members' chemistry truly shone. There were a lot of NSWERs who had wished to see the 'Funk-Glitter' stage at least once, and I'm happy that they can finally rest in peace!
Personally, this song has some painful memories for me, so I don't listen to it often. But seeing the members having fun on stage made me overlay those memories, so I plan to listen to it more often from now on. It's a really good song... it warms the heart.
Best Performance
Personally, for the choreography I liked, it's... tough. Can I pick two? One is 'Slingshot.'
'Slingshot' is a song that can be called the essence of mixpop, with its incredibly dynamic changes. Considering the constantly changing tempo, I think managing the dynamics within the song and creating memorable killing parts amidst the chaos is really important, and they did an outstanding job.
Another award for Best Choreography goes to 'RICO.' At first listen, just hearing the chorus, 'RICO' might seem like a simple hook song. But I see this song as the epitome of Latin pop, starting with a light beat and layering it with a lyrical piano and a flamboyant trumpet. Given how diverse its composition is, just like 'Slingshot,' I can imagine the choreography was challenging. Seeing choreography that expressed the colorfulness of the various instruments without losing its Latin identity was truly impressive.
Best Song
The stage that was the best to listen to was probably 'ADORE U.' First of all, the song itself is my style, so it gets a lot of points there. Plus, it was the first time they were showing this stage, which made it even more unforgettable. And when the members were walking around, coming right in front of my eyes, it was a blast! I already liked the song, but thanks to this memory, I like it even more now.
The lyrics are so beautiful too. 'If I could show you my heart, you could see how much I love you,' seriously... these lyrics move me every dawn.
Oh, and since this was an encore song, while the members were giving their closing remarks, the band members kept playing the MR for 'ADORE U.' That band version instrumental was especially, so, so good. If they ever release it as an official audio, I will definitely listen to it a lot. Please release it just once...
Stage of the Year
(Stage) of the Year! I couldn't *not* give this to this song. 'Blue Valentine!' It's such a meaningful song for both NMIXX and NSWER, and we're so grateful they came to us. I watched it with such a full heart. Honestly... I don't have much more to say. I'll say it again, I just couldn't *not* give it to this song.
Oops! Bonus Award
I'm adding this one personally because I'd regret it if I didn't. I've really loved the 'PAXXWORD' stage ever since I first saw it at the 'Expergo' showcase <strike> from my room </strike>. It was so great to see it again at this concert. The bright and energetic song, the trendy and cute lyrics, and the cute choreography that stays true to the song – I love it all.
Closing...
It's been a while since I've talked about performances, and my words are getting longer and longer, and I'm losing my touch on how to write, so this took a really long time. Since I tried a slightly different format, there are a lot of parts that feel awkward and make me think, 'Is this right...?' but I hope you'll look at it kindly.
As I rewatch the concert footage to write this, the more I watch, the deeper my affection for NMIXX as artists grows. Their diverse music, powerful performances, outstanding live vocals, and love for their fans. I hope the all-around idol NMIXX will grow even further based on this 'Blue Valentine' album and world tour, and with that, I'll wrap up.
"NSWERs are showering this concert review with love and some playful jabs, making it a full-on NMIXX love fest!"
