I'm asking for opinions here because I have nowhere else to go.
My husband is 4 years younger than me, so my sister-in-law is 2 years younger than me.
We've been dating for 5 years and married for over 2 years, but whenever my sister-in-law talks about me while on the phone with my husband, she's like, 'Your girlfriend?'
For example,
If he says, 'My wife bought me clothes today,' she'll ask,
'Your girlfriend? What did she buy you?'
It's always like that.
My husband gets mad, saying, 'We've been married for ages, why do you keep calling her my girlfriend?'
And then my sister-in-law always brushes it off with,
'Sorry, sorry, we dated for so long it's a habit. Sorry~'
It's the same at family gatherings. If I briefly leave the room, she'll ask my husband, 'Where'd your girlfriend go?' And then to my mother-in-law, 'Haven't seen your girlfriend around?' My mother-in-law doesn't say anything. I heard all of this from the bathroom.
She's over thirty, but her way of speaking still sounds like a middle schooler. She drinks often, so is her brain melting? Seriously, why is she like this? Should I confront her directly? I can't exactly punch her, seriously.
"Everyone's fed up with the sister-in-law's 'girlfriend' comment and giving the OP advice from hilarious to sassy."
