Netflix original series 'The Price of Confession' (written by Kwon Jong-kwan, directed by Lee Jung-hyo) gave reporters a preview of episodes 1 to 3 before its official release on the 5th. 'The Price of Confession' is a mystery thriller drama depicting the events that unfold between 'Yoon-soo,' who is framed as the killer of her husband, and 'Mo-eun,' a mysterious figure called a witch. Jeon Do-yeon plays Ahn Yoon-soo, the woman accused of killing her husband, and Kim Go-eun plays the mysterious woman Mo-eun, adding significant weight to the story.
'The Price of Confession' starts from the get-go with 'the husband's death' as the central event. While it remains ambiguous who killed the husband, the story is crafted in a way that no one can escape suspicion. Ahn Yoon-soo, who shows an excessively calm demeanor from the beginning, is an individual who can't easily shake off suspicion. What initially seemed like Ahn Yoon-soo being the one to discover her dying husband quickly turns into her becoming the prime suspect of his murder due to seemingly orchestrated, solid evidence.
Ahn Yoon-soo, who consistently claimed her innocence, is eventually sentenced to life imprisonment in the first trial. As she descends into despair with her young daughter placed in an orphanage, she hears a strange voice from the next cell in the punishment block – Mo-eun's secret proposal. Mo-eun, who greets people with a shaved head and an inscrutable face, is a character called a psychopath or a witch. Mo-eun makes a secret offer to Ahn Yoon-soo: she will confess to killing Ahn Yoon-soo's husband, if Ahn Yoon-soo goes outside and murders one more person, demanding 'the price of confession.'
The situation Ahn Yoon-soo is in is intriguing. Thanks to a rapid public opinion campaign, she is released on bail and reunited with her daughter, but the pressure to commit another murder as 'the price of confession' is expected to continue. This story is anticipated to unfold in earnest from episode 4 onwards, and it's curious to see what kind of story they'll weave as the setting shifts from the confining prison, mirroring Ahn Yoon-soo's frustrating situation, to the outside world.
Furthermore, the husband's death continues to be a question for viewers. By ambiguously revealing who the real killer is, the story progresses in a way that makes both Ahn Yoon-soo and Mo-eun potential suspects. The face of the woman in the hood that Ahn Yoon-soo saw and Mo-eun's face running in the rain are juxtaposed, and there are even parts where viewers suspect that Mo-eun might actually be the real killer. Also, the murder scene of Ahn Yoon-soo is depicted as if it were real, adding to the fun of trying to uncover who the real killer is until the very end.
While Ahn Yoon-soo and Mo-eun continue their somewhat inexplicable collaboration, the ones making the impossible happen and 'working overtime' are Jeon Do-yeon and Kim Go-eun. Reuniting for the first time in about 10 years since 'The协女', the two lead viewers into the drama with a completely different dynamic in 'The Price of Confession.' Their acting, which is so captivating that it's hard to imagine anyone else in their roles, fully immerses the audience. Jeon Do-yeon, portraying Ahn Yoon-soo, the woman who shows a mysterious calmness despite her husband's death, is absolutely flying in the drama. Her power is perfectly at play in leading the story to the point where you can't be sure if she's the killer or not. Adding to this, Kim Go-eun's performance with her shocking shaved head is a perfect highlight of 'The Price of Confession.' Watching Kim Go-eun, who looks at the world with empty eyes that give nothing away, then suddenly changes to glittering eyes and shouts "Unnie, fighting!" makes you feel like you'll helplessly click the 'next episode' button.
As the title suggests, the new series 'The Price of Confession,' which contains all the questions about Ahn Yoon-soo's life, paying the price, Mo-eun's true intentions who demanded it, and who the real killer of the husband is, will release all 12 episodes on the 5th.
