The 'Goo Hara Act' officially in effect... 'No more parents snatching inheritance after their child's death.'
'The era where you get parent-treatment just for giving birth is over.'
Putting an end to the tragedy where deadbeat parents who abandoned their kids shamelessly demand inheritance after the child passes away.
On the 31st, the Supreme Court revealed major changes to the judicial system for the 2026 New Year, announcing that Civil Act Article 1004-2, aka the 'Goo Hara Act,' will officially go into effect on January 1st.
The core of the law is 'forfeiture of inheritance rights.' If a parent significantly neglected their duty to support the child while they were a minor, or committed a serious crime against the child or spouse, the court can strip them of their inheritance rights even if they are the biological parent.
"Netizens are celebrating the long-overdue justice against 'deadbeat' parents, though some feel bittersweet knowing the law won't retroactively help Goo Hara herself."
