Movie trivia that turned out to be total BS.jpg

The Godfather became a legend because the mobsters looked so damn cool in it.
Specifically, there's a rumor that because the movie featured so many mobsters in sharp, tailored three-piece suits, real-life mobsters started dressing like that to look just as cool.

But in reality, mobsters had been rocking suits since the Prohibition era in the 1920s and 30s.
Back then, even blue-collar workers wore suits as everyday clothes, so even the lower class dressed like that.
Considering The Godfather came out in 1972, it was more like they were just being historically accurate to the Prohibition era.
The thing that actually changed was their speech—real mobsters supposedly started mimicking the upper-class English used in the film.
"Users are geeking out over historical fashion accuracy and memeing the 'Manners Maketh Man' quote with a mobster twist."
