My main hobby is AV (Audio-Visual), but there's a limit to what you can do in apartments or multi-unit housing. The urge is bubbling up, but it's not easy to let it out. I want to blast the woofer, watch movies, play games, and listen to music, but I feel like I'm in a state of constant frustration. It feels like a prison without bars. Of course, I'd still need soundproofing if the neighbors are close, but it’d be way better than an apartment where I'm always anxious about vibrations even with soundproofing.
I also love growing plants, but apartments are frustrating because of the lack of light and ventilation. Luckily, my current office has a yard so I'm growing some there, but since it's only in pots, it's still a bit unsatisfying. People who live in houses say garden maintenance is so hard they just pave it over with cement, but I think I'd actually enjoy the fun of growing things.
For about 5-6 months of the year, I spend my weekends at the beach, and cleaning up afterward is a nightmare in an apartment. Having a wide outdoor space would make cleaning up after outdoor activities so much easier.
As for house repairs and maintenance, I already do most of the maintenance for my office myself, so I don't think it'll be a big problem. Plus, I love decorating. I'm always tinkering and fixing things at the office, but apartments have so many restrictions on that kind of stuff.
In many ways, I think living in a detached house would be great because I could freely do whatever I want, whenever I want.
