Disney & Webtoon Ent. finalize equity deal... pushing for new digital comics platform

Disney and Webtoon Entertainment (Naver Webtoon) have officially closed the strategic partnership they previously announced and are speeding up the launch of a new digital comics platform.

The Walt Disney Company and Webtoon Entertainment announced on the 8th (local time) that they have finalized a strategic deal including the development of a new digital comics platform and Disney's roughly 2% stake investment in Webtoon Entertainment.

Per the agreement, Webtoon Entertainment will collaborate with Disney to build and manage the new digital comics platform themselves. The platform will host current series as well as decades of backlog from major Disney IPs like Marvel, Star Wars, and 20th Century Studios. Select Webtoon originals will also be included.
