이재명 대통령은 9일 "최저임금은 그 이하로 주면 안 되는 금지선이지, 권장되는 임금이 아니다"라며 공공 영역에 적정한 임금을 지급해야 한다고 밝혔다.

이 대통령은 이날 오전 용산 대통령실에서 열린 제53회 국무회의를 통해 "왜 정부는 지방, 정부 할 것 없이 사람을 쓰면 최저임금만 주냐"며 이같이 말했다.

그는 "기업은 돈 벌기 위해서 법이 허용하는, 사회적으로 용인되는 범위 내에서 최저로 주고 이익을 최대화하는 게 심정적으로 이해되는데 정부는 돈을 잘 쓰는 게 의무인 조직"이라며 "저축하는 게 정부 일이 아니다. 잘 쓰는 것, 효율적으로 쓰는 것인데 데 왜 사람을 쓰면 노동에 상당한 적정한 임금을 줘야지 법이 허용하는 최저를 주냐"고 지적했다.
