The CCP forces (PLA) described the Turkish troops in their reports as "the most dangerous unit in night close-quarters combat." The Turks traditionally had a high rate of bayonet and close-combat training, which they thoroughly utilized in night engagements.
In November 1950, during the Battle of Wawon (Kunu-ri), when the entire US Eighth Army was on the brink of collapse due to the massive CCP offensive, the Turkish Brigade famously broke through the CCP forces blocking the retreat route, protecting the withdrawal of US and ROK forces.
