Programmed by punching holes into punch cards. The specs: IBM 7040, 64kb memory. It was a supercomputer back then.
Simulated the appearance of the accretion disk around a Schwarzschild black hole. Calculated the effect of the black hole's gravity on light. Considered both the Doppler effect and the Einstein effect (gravitational redshift).
Every single dot was plotted manually by a person based on the brightness calculated by the computer. The computer didn't draw it itself.
This is the current simulation image.
"Users are roasting the *Interstellar* production team for allegedly overselling their contribution to black hole visualization, proving that the real OGs nailed the theory decades ago. Respect for the 1979 madlads who plotted every dot by hand!"
