[Exclusive] Samsung leaks shorter, wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 'F971' model
Samsung reveals design for rumored wide foldable

Samsung has a stacked foldable lineup: Galaxy Z Fold, Flip, and now even the TriFold. But it looks like the Korean tech giant might be adding yet another foldable line to the collection. Reports suggest this new foldable will have a wider form factor to compete with Apple’s upcoming iPhone Fold. The possible design for this rumored device might have just been revealed. According to SammyGuru, Samsung recently conducted a survey about foldable form factors. In this survey, Samsung reportedly presented several concept images showing a horizontally wide Fold-style foldable smartphone.

Looking at these images, the size of this foldable device seems designed to be more similar to the original Google Pixel Fold. Meanwhile, the publication compares it to the Microsoft Surface Duo, but explains it actually has a folding display. Specific specs or information about the device weren't revealed in the survey. However, this at least shows that Samsung is considering the possibility of adding a new horizontal/wide foldable device to its lineup. It’s also worth noting that there's no guarantee this survey and these images will lead to an actual product release.

Current rumors suggest that Samsung's horizontal foldable device will have an 18:9 aspect ratio when folded, and an 18:18 ratio when unfolded, offering a folding display that is close to square. Recently, an unknown Samsung device with model number SM F971U was spotted in the GSMA database, registered with the marketing name H8. Since Samsung typically uses SM F9xx model numbers for Fold-style foldable products, this device is very likely a new Fold-series product. Furthermore, it's highly unlikely to be the Galaxy Z Fold 8, as Samsung usually uses the marketing name Qx for that model, not Hx. This raises the possibility that the SM F971U model number is linked to the rumored horizontal foldable device.
"Users are hyped for a wider foldable that fixes the current Fold's 'narrow-mode' problem, but mostly everyone is having a huge throwback to the wide LG Vu phones of yesteryear. Oh, and someone just wants a 16:9 screen already."
