Youth Outside the Labor Force
As of last month, the number of young people in their 20s and 30s without a job reached 1.589 million, or 12.7%, marking the highest level in four years since the COVID period in 2021.
Looking at the breakdown, 'unemployed persons' in their 20s and 30s accounted for 359,000, and those preparing for employment were 510,000.
Notably, respondents who said they were 'taking a break' without any specific job-seeking activities numbered 719,000, the highest since statistics began compiling in 2003.
As rolling and experienced hiring become more common instead of mass public recruitment, the first job placement for those in their 20s is delayed, and the ripple effect is spreading into the 30s.

"Users are roasting the new, overly academic terms like 'Youth Outside the Labor Force,' which seem designed to deflect from the skyrocketing unemployment crisis. This thread also features a highly specific sidebar discussion about the dangers of welding fumes."
