
Edison Motors announcing they'd acquire SsangYong Motor was the talk of the town on FMKorea's Hot Posts (Poten) for a while.
But obviously, it was never going to happen, and SsangYong Motor was acquired by the KG Group and became KGM.
After a bunch of controversies piled up,


Edison Motors actually ended up getting acquired *by* the SsangYong that became KGM, and their name changed to KGMc (Commercial).
So what has Edison Motors been up to since then? Wait, what did Edison Motors even do originally?

They were a company that sold semi-knocked-down (SKD) buses made in China.
They targeted bus companies that needed to buy different buses due to delivery delays from Hyundai Motor and various other reasons.
So, are they still hawking Chinese SKD buses now?


Surprisingly, they’re focusing hard on domestic production, sequentially scrapping their old Chinese SKD electric bus lineup. They are pouring their energy into making domestic buses where the share of local components reaches 90% based on cost. The electric buses are apparently being produced at the Gunsan factory in Jeonbuk.




The models replacing the old Chinese SKD buses include domestically developed medium and large low-floor buses. They are also about to release a small low-floor bus, which is also said to be 100% domestically developed.

They are getting positive reviews, suggesting they could be decent competition for the Hyundai County Electric. Furthermore, they are planning to partner with Hyundai Motor to manufacture and produce hydrogen buses. This is seen as a move distinct from KGM, which, like Edison Motors previously, is selling EVs developed using Chinese technology and parts (via cooperation with companies like Chery and BYD).
