
A Korean volunteer soldier, Mr. Kim (56), who was fighting in the war in Ukraine, has died. Mr. Kim died in May 2025 while engaging Russian forces in Nova Poltavka, Donetsk Oblast, as part of the International Legion.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs received notification of the death from Ukraine and is providing consular assistance to the bereaved family. The body is expected to be repatriated to Korea. It is estimated that seven Koreans have died in Ukraine so far.
