The main star who went viral on KBS 1TVโs 'National Singing Contest' in 2019, Ji Byeong-soo, who earned the nickname 'Hal-Dambi' (Grandpa + Son Dam-bi) after dancing to Son Dam-biโs โCrazy,โ passed away on October 30th at the National Medical Center due to old age, reported Yonhap News on the 17th, citing his acquaintance Song Dong-ho, CEO of Seungjin Wan-gu (Seoul Dongdaemun-gu). He was 82 years old.
Born the youngest of 11 siblings in a wealthy family in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do, he graduated from Jeonju Shinheung High School and entered Hanyang Universityโs Department of Trade but dropped out. He later worked for his brother's construction company, opened a clothing store 'Duvan' in Myeongdong, and even ran a bar in Sinchon. He also has a history of learning traditional dance and being selected for a troupe that performed in Japan.
However, he lost all his assets due to three fraud incidents and bad guarantees, and subsequently lived as a basic livelihood recipient.
"Paying respects to the Hal-Dambi legend who taught us age is just a number."
