Chicago Fire has held positive talks with Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski regarding a move to MLS.
The Polish all-time top scorer's contract with Barcelona expires at the end of this season, and Chicago Fire is looking to sign the 37-year-old next summer.
According to BBC Sport sources, Lewandowski is open to the move, and his wages are not expected to be an issue.
He still has other options, including staying at Barcelona or moving to the Saudi Pro League, but an MLS transfer is highly likely.
Chicago Fire, who made the MLS playoffs this season for the first time since 2017, has placed him on their 'Discovery List,' meaning no other club in the league can sign him without paying compensation to Chicago.
Inter Miami has also been linked with Lewandowski, but they cannot negotiate with him while he is on that list, giving Chicago priority if he decides to continue his career in the US.
Messi's Inter Miami recently won their first MLS title against Vancouver this month and has an open Designated Player slot following Jordi Alba's retirement.
Chicago, which attempted to sign Neymar and De Bruyne earlier this year, has made Lewandowski their top priority for at least six months, a strategy considering Chicago hosts the largest Polish community in the US.
Lewandowski's wife, Anna, visited Chicago, USA, last month.
Lewandowski moved to Barcelona on a four-year deal in 2022, scoring 109 goals in 164 appearances for the club and winning two La Liga titles. He has scored 8 goals in 17 appearances this season, and his team is leading the league by four points.
