Poland paid $2.4 billion (approx. 3 trillion KRW) for 212 K9 units, which works out to $11.3 million per unit. Considering that the first system was delivered just a few months after signing the contract, and the entire purchase was completed in only three years, that’s an amazing accomplishment.
Poland placed an additional order for 152 Korean SPHs in December 2023. Deliveries are expected to continue until 2027, meaning two more years of additional deliveries.
Given the high production volume and competitive pricing, it's no wonder many countries are choosing Korean weapons like the K9 howitzer and the K2 tank. Plus, they can provide high levels of localization when needed to win contracts.
On the flip side, not every country got theirs so quickly. Estonia had to wait two years to receive its SPHs. Even so, the pace of delivery was still relatively fast, and there haven't been major complaints about the timing.
"Everyone is totally blown away by the speed of Korean manufacturing, which naturally leads to jokes about Korea's arms salesman pitch and deep philosophical debates about whether SPH KABOOMs are better than little drone plinks."
