She managed to live about a month longer than when we got the call saying she was critical and might not make it past a week.
In the end, she couldn't make it past this year.
She was 103 this year, honestly, if she had passed away 20 years ago at 83, it wouldn't have been weird at all and it certainly wouldn't be considered dying young.
She really lived a tremendously long and healthy life. Up until this spring, if she was in good condition, she recognized all of us, including me.
Since I was the one responsible for taking her to the hospital visits and checkups as her guardian these last few years, we built up a lot of memories.
Because she lived for so long, the feeling that she would always be by my side coexisted with the feeling that it wouldn't be strange if she passed away anytime. I kept preparing myself mentally, but now that it’s actually happened...
Yeah, it still hits differently. I will make sure to send her off well.
