Some motherf*cking customer caught our storeโs Wi-Fi signal back in August, and because they downloaded a movie via torrent, an investigator actually came and went, seriously, WTF... The investigator personally came and showed me the formal complaint and the IP address. Holy sh*t, it was ours. We had posted a notice saying 'Feel free to use the Wi-Fi here at the office,' and we even put up the QR code and password, damn it. This is seriously chilling. I told the investigator, 'Go ahead and check all the PCs;;' and they checked everything, but we didn't have anything [illegal]. I immediately tore down all the Wi-Fi sharing QRs right then.
"OP got completely screwed because some pirate turned their public Wi-Fi into a distribution hub. Commenters explain that torrenting is risky because it makes you a distributor, not just a downloader, and everyone agrees that public Wi-Fi is now a legal death trap. Too bad the CCTV footage is gone!"
