The JoJoLands, which is currently being serialized, is getting reviews that it feels quite different/alien compared to previous JoJo parts.

The protagonist, Jodio Joestar—this guy sells drugs at school, steals stuff, and is basically a gang lackey. Plus, his 'friends' are pickpockets and drug addicts. Unlike Giorno Giovanna from Part 5, whose goal was to drive out the drug-dealing Passione, this kid is a straight-up gang grunt.

Meanwhile, his brother Dragona Joestar is transgender.

Jodio Joestar's Stand is 'November Rain.' It makes rain fall, and the raindrops are incredibly heavy. However, it only rains directly under the Stand, so the range is super narrow.

Dragona's Stand, 'Smooth Operators.' Four small colony-type units that can move things. Its trait is moving fixed elements like the embossed numbers on a license plate. But it can't move heavy stuff—if there's even a little weight to it, it's a no-go.

Jodio's friend Paco's Stand, 'The Hustle.' It can manipulate muscles. It's not like it increases physical strength or anything; it just lets him grab/stick objects to his skin using his muscles.

Jodio's other friend Usagi's Stand, 'THE MATTEKUDASAI.' It can transform into objects. But it can't do it of its own will; the Stand only works when someone else makes a request.

The protagonists have these absolute 'fodder-tier' Stands that usually belong to minor side characters. Most importantly, there's no 'Ora Ora' rush...

On top of that, modern issues like Dua Lipa, US police brutality, and COVID appear, so it’s being called even more 'atypical' than usual.
"Fans are discussing how the JoJo series keeps getting weirder and more 'modern' with Part 9, while veterans point out that the series has been peak 'gay' and 'different' since the early days."
