This movie felt like it was depicting the horrors of the WWI era through characters being driven out of their safe havens. The irony of the protagonist, who was kicked out of her home, eventually attempting an abortion and 'driving out' the baby in her womb, felt like a visual representation of that pain through the husband's character. There is no such thing as a 'cozy home' in this film. On top of that, there were plenty of interesting elements, like the metaphors surrounding the 'needle' and the conflicting views on abortion. Finding out it was based on true events made it even more shocking. Because of the subject matter, it reminded me of the movie Vera Drake. The vibe is a bit different, but it’s just as great a film, so I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it yet. 4.0/5.0
