Back in February, Reporter A and others wrote in an article regarding Theborn Korea's building code violations that “Theborn Korea revealed pathetic corporate ethics by inquiring with the police about the identity of the public interest whistleblower.” This content was modified three hours later to “revealed pathetic corporate ethics by requesting information disclosure of the report contents from the police.” Two weeks later, at Theborn Korea’s request, a rebuttal was published stating, ‘The request for information disclosure was made following procedures guided by the officer to identify the facts of the allegations in the complaint, which is a standard procedure in responding to a police investigation.’ Baek and Theborn Korea filed a lawsuit for damages against two reporters, claiming their reputation was defamed. Reporter A and others countered that the report was based on a whistleblower's tip. The court ruled that Reporter A and others defamed Baek and Theborn Korea by stating false facts.
