A fictional material in the DC Comics universe, best known as Superman's most iconic weakness.
Batman getting bodied by Superman. Superman's stats vary depending on the writer, but he's basically a god.
With Kryptonite, you can actually wound Superman and weaken his powers.
Since Kryptonite is so famous as his weakness, people often use the phrase 'X is Y's Kryptonite' to describe someone's fatal flaw.
Because of this, a question once popped up on Reddit asking 'What is Superman's Kryptonite (weakness)?'
There are many types of Kryptonite. Green: Temporarily weakens Superman, lethal after 1 hour of contact. Harmless to humans but causes radiation poisoning with prolonged exposure. Red: Weakens Superman's logic and sends him into a frenzy. Blue: Unidentified. Gold: Permanently removes superpowers. Pink: Turns Superman gay. Black: Splits his good and evil sides. Silver: Causes hallucinations, and so on.

It basically plays the same role as Iron Man's Arc Reactor.
Scientists also study Kryptonite to use it as a power source or even for treating diseases.

But honestly, Superman's stats are such a monster level that you can't win with just Kryptonite alone.
