Naver Webtoon is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a 'Time Machine Zone' using the old UI and making classic hits free to read.

They split the 20-year span into two halves and did a special collab series called '20th Anniversary Masterpiece Theater' with authors Cho Seok and Beombae.

Author Beombae, famous for 'Queen Never Cries,' got insane reviews for mixing his 'Gi-sisters' characters with parodies of the classic webtoons' art styles and stories. (He even redid all the thumbnails himself). People were hyped for Cho Seok, thinking his signature style applied to old characters would be hilarious, but...

He's getting a lot of heat because his chapters are just one drawing in his style plus a 'book report' style commentary. At first, people blamed Naver for bad planning, but as it goes on, the scene choices make people wonder if he even read the webtoons. It's just a loop of 'This webtoon exists -> Wow, I couldn't do this, they're great.' Beyond just communication issues with Naver, people are saying the content itself is lazy. Personally, I was looking forward to the nostalgia, but I’m super disappointed with every new chapter.
"Fans are disappointed with Cho Seok's 'lazy' 20th-anniversary special, especially since the previous author set the bar so high by going god-mode with the parodies."
