A man in his 30s was sentenced to prison for selling a game account worth hundreds of millions of won and then reclaiming it by changing the password.
Last August, 'A' sold an online game account valued at 290 million KRW for 205 million KRW. This March, he logged back in and changed the password.
The prosecution indicted him under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, calculating his total illicit gain at over 500 million KRW—combining the 290 million KRW account value and the cash he received.
"Community members are shocked by the massive price of the game account—likely Lineage ('Dog Meat') or MapleStory ('Mushrooms')—and are debating the prosecution's 'Jeweler's Loss' style math on the total fraud charges."
