Hundreds of delivery riders surround and protest at an apartment complex in Changsha, Hunan, China

Explanation from a Chinese local:

On December 22nd, delivery riders totally snapped at the 'Heneng Puli' complex in Changsha. The property management (Wuye) made a rule that 'riders must use a handcart and walk when delivering,' while letting residents ride their e-bikes in and out as they please. This blatant double standard was basically treating the riders like 'untouchables.' Hundreds of riders swarmed in from across the city, surrounding the complex, honking like crazy, and shouting 'Cao Ni Ma!' (Fuck your mother) in unison. Residents enjoyed the convenience while shifting the burden onto the riders, making them feel like second-class citizens. But that's not the root cause. The real reason this blew up isn't just because residents and riders hate each other—it's bigger structural issues pushing them to clash. (...) The resident-rider conflict is just on the surface; the real engine is the platform's endless exploitation and the systemic disregard for 'bottom-tier workers.' Residents just enjoyed the convenience, but the cost of that conflict was dumped on the most vulnerable group—the riders.

+ Update: It started on the night of Dec 22nd and was completely dispersed before dawn on the 23rd. Below are photos of the Public Security (police) dispatched to the scene.

"Users analyze the 'magma ocean' of China's delivery market while some cynically point out the futility of protesting under the CCP and others vouch for the cheap convenience of Chinese travel."
