A research team led by Professor Eijiro Miyako from the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) screened 45 bacterial strains from the guts of Japanese tree frogs, red-bellied newts, and Japanese grass lizards. They discovered that Ewingella americana, isolated from the gut of the Japanese tree frog, has a powerful anticancer effect that completely eliminates tumors in mouse cancer models with a single administration. The results were published in Gut Microbes.
