Maybe the real game starts after you take off the uniform. According to a study, the highest-earning athlete of all time is the 'Basketball Emperor' Michael Jordan (62), who has been retired for over 20 years.
US sports business outlet Sportico released a report on the cumulative earnings of past and present athletes. Jordan ranked #1 with a total of $4.15 billion (approx. 5.9 trillion KRW) combined from his active years and retirement. While his nominal earnings were around $3 billion, the figure was adjusted for inflation. 2nd place went to Tiger Woods at $2.79 billion. Jordan raked in $300 million in 2024 alone.
