The indie game scene is entering a golden age according to Chris Zukowski. The game industry has had a rough few years. But from the perspective of solo devs or small teams, it's actually a golden age right now...

Why so optimistic? I've coined the term 'The Great Conjunction' to describe this weird period where the genres that are easy to make happen to align perfectly with the genres gamers want most.

Games of the Great Conjunction. It's not just one genre getting all the hype. About 4 to 6 genres are booming simultaneously.

1. Friend Slop (Co-op games). Since Lethal Company, there's been a generational shift in co-op games to play with friends.

2. Horror is still king. Horror is still a great genre to develop, and there's a lot of crossover happening with co-op games.
"Gamers are debating if 'Friend Slop' is a legit trend or just an excuse for asset flips, with some pragmatists arguing that gameplay-first/low-graphics is the only way to survive the current hardware market."
