What people think causes tetanus

The actual cause of tetanus
Tetanus is caused by an anaerobic bacterium called Clostridium tetani. These bacteria mainly live in the soil.
The reason rusty objects are usually blamed is simply because they've been left in unsanitary environments long enough to rust, meaning they're crawling with bacteria. They're also sharp and easily pierce the skin, making it easy for the bacteria to enter. In reality, 'rust' itself has almost nothing to do with tetanus.
"Users debunk the myth that rust itself causes tetanus, attributing the fear to childhood scrapes and 'Memories of Murder.' One user gets roasted for claiming they know someone who lost a finger to a toothpick."
