In the beginning, TNA used a standard 4-sided ring like everyone else. But after Jeff Jarrett saw the 6-sided ring in Mexico's AAA, he decided to bring it to TNA. Even though some wrestlers like Sting weren't fans, it eventually grabbed the audience's attention through a ton of banger matches that utilized the unique shape.

Hulk Hogan, after listening to the wrestlers' complaints upon joining TNA, got rid of the 6-sided ring and switched it back to the 4-sided one.

When they were switching back, AJ Styles and other TNA originals opposed it, thinking that TNA would lose what made it stand out...

But apparently, once they actually went back to the 4-sided ring, he realized just how much more comfortable it was than the 6-sided one.

Specifically, in a 4-sided ring, the posts at the corners hold the ring together, but a 6-sided ring has an extra support post right under the center of the ring. Because of that, taking bumps or landing on it hurt like hell.

He mentioned that when he took a top-rope Belly-to-Belly from Kurt Angle during a UK tour, it was excruciating in the 6-sided ring, but taking the exact same move in a 4-sided ring felt way less painful.
"Fans are reminiscing about the TNA era, weighing the 'uniqueness' of the 6-sided ring against the literal physical torture it put the wrestlers through, while some still miss how cool certain moves like the Pounce looked."
