The first case of a medical license being revoked solely due to a sex crime has emerged. This marks the first instance since the 2023 Medical Service Act amendment, which expanded revocation grounds to any crime resulting in a prison sentence or higher. According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the 31st, they recently completed two administrative actions to revoke licenses for sex crimes. One involved a violation of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (illegal filming/spycam), finalized in July, with the license revoked on Oct 31. The other involved statutory rape, finalized in June, with the license revoked on Nov 20. Both cases involved prison-level sentences.
"The community is mostly cheering for the 'trash being taken out,' though many are cynical about the 3-year re-issuance rule. Some users brought the receipts with stats showing that getting a license back is becoming nearly impossible these days."
