Seosan City in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 9th that their harmful wildlife prevention team caught 3,738 water deer and 202 wild boars that were wrecking crops last year.
Team members receive a bounty of 300,000 KRW per wild boar, 40,000 KRW per water deer, and 5,000 KRW per bird caught.
While water deer are globally considered an endangered species, they are designated as 'harmful wildlife' in Korea and managed accordingly.
"Netizens are baffled by how an endangered species managed to become Korea's most annoying crop-wrecking nuisance."
