Around June 2025 (likely 2024), the owner first visited for a restoration and was given a 29M KRW quote with a delivery date around Chuseok. The owner told the shop the total budget was 35M KRW (apparently there's a recording). After the first quote, he paid 20M KRW in cash upfront.

August 2025 update from the shop: The owner visited to check the progress and intermediate quote at the shop's request. On that day, he received a 2nd quote for about 56M KRW. He says he was never warned about the price doubling. Since the car was already disassembled and mid-work, the shop said they couldn't continue without more money. The owner sent another 20M KRW.

During this process, they even wrote an IOU, and the quote eventually climbed to 60M KRW before they reached a final settlement of 00M KRW (only they know the amount). Now, the owner has hired a lawyer and is filing a lawsuit. Naturally, the shop has its own side of the story too.

The shop claims: This specific restoration was high difficulty, and costs can change depending on the condition after disassembly. They claim they didn't add random tasks or charges. They say they guided the owner through the expanded work/parts with intermediate settlements and got his consent. They also claim the owner's post is a distortion of facts that omits the negotiation process. They say everything was transparent and will release a video soon. Both sides' stories are so different that this is definitely heading to court.
"The community is torn between 'car restoration is unpredictable' and 'doubling the price after tearing the car apart is straight-up extortion.' Most agree that once the car is in pieces, the owner is completely at the shop's mercy."
