I've been feeling this for a few years now.
I'm the type who usually uses Tmap when heading back to Seoul after fishing on the weekends, and I feel like Tmap is intentionally baiting me into expensive private toll roads around the metro area.
For example, if I'm taking the Seohaean Expressway to Banpo. Taking the Seohaean all the way up through Guro/Yeongdeungpo to Olympic-daero is the most rational path because you only pay the Seohaean toll, and it's not even that crowded on Sunday nights.
But Tmap's 'Recommended,' 'Fastest,' and 'Shortest' routes all tell me to take the private toll roads in the metro area. Technically, it's not wrong—it is the fastest and shortest. The problem is, it's like 5 minutes faster for several thousand won extra. The cost-benefit just isn't there.
But if I set it to 'Avoid Tolls,' it won't even put me on the Seohaean Expressway, so that's useless.
In the end, I just ignore Tmap, drive all the way up the Seohaean, pass the tollgate, and then reset the destination to go home.
I don't know if they're doing this on purpose or just being lazy, but if 'Fastest' and 'Shortest' both point to private toll roads, 'Tmap Recommended' should offer a different option so the driver can choose. Often, they all suggest the exact same route.
I wish there was a 'Value for Money' route option.
