The 'Top 3' girls' schools in Tokyo all require entrance exams. There are no high school admissions, so if you fail the middle school exam, it's over. 1. Ouin Junior & Senior High School
(The image quality was bad so I didn't include it, but they have pants as a uniform option too) A school that prioritizes etiquette education. 7th graders have an etiquette class once a week. Graduates who've entered the workforce often say it's the class they'd want to take again, so it seems very helpful in the long run. The middle school entrance exam is notoriously difficult; there was even a time a passage from a University of Tokyo entrance exam appeared on their Korean (Japanese) literature test. Since the ratio of high-achievers is so high, many women don't rely on marriage, leading to a high rate of singlehood. Hensachi (Standard Score): 70–77 (70+ is roughly the top 2%). 2022 Stats: 77 grads out of 228 accepted to Tokyo University (69 excluding multiple department passes, 30.26% success rate for first-time testers). Medical school passes: 113 (76 first-timers, 33.33% success rate).
2. Joshigakuin (JG) Junior & Senior High School
A mission school usually abbreviated as 'JG.' They value a free-spirited school culture, so hair dye, makeup, piercings, and casual clothes are all OK. During breaks, you'll see everything: people making 'nagashi somen' (sliding noodles) out of plastic bottles, cooking hot pots (nabe), or gathering in the rooftop garden in cosplay for Halloween. It’s said you'll frequently find BL (Boys' Love) books on the floor or students playing Tarzan with the curtains. Based on this, it sounds like total chaos, but it's incredibly hard to get in... Hensachi: 70–76. 2022 Stats: 31 grads out of 222 accepted to Tokyo University (28 first-timers, 12.61% success rate). Medical school passes: 70 (19.37% success rate). Notable alumnae: Nogizaka46's Ikeda Teresa, etc.
3. Futaba Junior & Senior High School
A Catholic girls' school with a strong 'Ojou-sama' (posh lady) image. This one has an elementary school too, and there are stories of kids wrapping their lunchboxes in Hermes scarves... (The principal didn't deny it when asked if it actually happened). However, that's more of an elementary school thing; from middle school onwards, various students join, so it's not quite that extreme. Hensachi: 68–74. 2022 Stats: 9 grads out of 175 accepted to Tokyo University (5.14% success rate). Medical school passes: 97 (27.43% success rate). Notable alumnae: Comedian Ito Asako, etc.
