Champee (Jissouseki) appears in all sorts of abuse-themed and black comedy comics. Interestingly, while it's already dead in Japan, it's still thriving in Korea. This character actually has an original model.

It's Suiseiseki from the manga Rozen Maiden. She's a ball-jointed doll, but she eats food like a human. She eats a ridiculous amount, and it's a mystery where it all goes.

Unlike Champee, she's actually pretty, but her personality and actions in the series are pure Champee. Even that signature '~desu' way of talking was taken from her. Fortunately, she eventually becomes a good person.

So how did such a pretty character turn into Champee? It started when a Japanese user drew Suiseiseki from a vague memory. This pathetic yet creepy-looking sketch blew up, and as detailed traits and lore were added, the Champee we know today was born.

That signature Champee facial expression even appears in the original anime.

So sweet-sweet desu-ung~

Tetchyaaaaa!

Let go, you shit-human!!

While 'Dororong,' who was born through a similar case, is still loved by many...

"Users are reminiscing about the Rozen Maiden origins of the Champee meme, discussing its 'survival' genre comics, and laughing at the weird legal loophole that keeps the meme alive in Korea while it's dead in Japan."
