That post claims the iPhone's 120Hz only kicks in momentarily (at its peak) and normally runs at 80Hz.
But that's not true.
This issue surfaced when the iPhone 16 Pro was running iOS 18.
It was already covered by ColorScale (mentioning him because he's objectively the most famous display YouTuber, so no debate there).

To sum it up, on iOS 18, the refresh rate briefly drops to 80 only when you're scrolling so damn fast you can't even see the info; otherwise, it stays at a solid 120Hz.
You might say, 'But hey, you fucker, isn't it still shitty to cap it at 80 when I paid for 120Hz?'
In the latest OS update, it runs at 120Hz. It's not even an issue anymore.
Fact Check
1. Did they sell it advertising 120Hz only for it to be capped at 80 most of the time? -> Lies. It stays at 120 in almost every situation. It only dropped to 80 on iOS 18 during insanely fast scrolling. (Fixed in latest update) -> iOS 17 also gave a solid 120, so it seems like they experimentally lowered the Hz during ultra-fast scrolling only on iOS 18.
2. Is this still an ongoing issue? -> Nope. It was fixed with the latest OS update.
"The comment section has turned into a classic 'iPhone vs. Samsung' fanboy battlefield, debating whether Apple's refresh rate 'optimization' is a smart feature or a GOS-level scam."
